How did we get here?
Just after graduating high school, I went onto Empire beauty school for my cosmetology license. I was expecting my first child, and I knew I wanted even more out of life and more options! Just 1 week after graduating, I had my son and then within six weeks was back into cosmetology school to earn my teachers license.
I begin working in salons, managed a chain salon for about 8 years, and then decided I wanted to move onto renting my own space as a stylist! I rented my space and was very happy for several years, working with my best friends to this date – and all of a sudden the building was going to need to be torn down for a road construction project. Sometimes when big things happen, you have to make choices.
You can wait and see what happens or go out and make something happen. I’m a firm believer in making things happen! To be able to rent space in the state of Pennsylvania you needed to have a barbers license. So I went on to Barber School! Ironically, I was expecting my second son at that time! I completed Barber school, also obtained my Barber Managers license so I can apprentice others. And for 17 years we have been at the same amazing shop - Escape Salon and Day Spa in York, PA.
Why Monat??
How did a hairstylist and an insurance agent ended up running a successful shampoo business together? Let me tell you a little story about how it all began. Five years ago, my neighbor Nikki Brandt introduced me to Monat, her new favorite shampoo brand. Being a smart businesswoman, she dropped off samples at my doorstep, hoping to get my attention as a hairstylist. I tried the samples, and although the shampoo didn't "wow" me, I loved the blowout cream and conditioner.
Over the next year, I followed Nikki's journey on social media, watching her hair transform from heavily highlighted to all-over platinum blonde. As a hairstylist, I was impressed by how healthy her hair looked despite the all over bleaching process. I reached out to Nikki and asked to try Monat products again. However, my salon friends were skeptical about network marketing products, which made me doubt myself for a while.
Eventually, Nikki gave me a cute canvas bag filled with full-size bottles from her personal stash. This time, I had a much better experience with the shampoo, and I was sold. I joined Monat in December 2019, just in time for the opportunity to earn founder shares. My business partner Trisha Fox joined me, and we both earned multiple bonuses within the first three months.
Enter 2020, and our salons were closed for three months. With no income and bills to pay, we were stressed out. However, Monat gave us a lifeline and a sense of community. We found support from amazing women, men, and business partners who were there for us emotionally and ready to work with us. Monat became our family, and we pulled through some of our darkest days together.
In December 2020, I hit the rank of Market Mentor and earned my founder shares. In September 2021, I earned my Cadillac by hitting the rank of MM three months in a row. These ranks were not achieved alone, but with the support of my amazing team. Network marketing is truly a team sport!
